Lane + Co Book Photography

With decades of experience, we at Lane + Co are the industry standard when it comes to visualising a book using still-life photography. For all projects we will offer the client at least 3 creative concepts which will capture the essence of the book and/or the author. After deciding on a creative route we will use expert art direction and industry leading still life photography to produce bespoke imagery which can be used for book marketing a advertising.

On all book shoots we can provide a studio, lighting equipment, props and set build when required. We pride oursleves on a strict non-AI approach.

Over the years we have worked on some of the biggest titles for all the major publishers of fiction and non-fiction.

Want by Gillian Anderson

We have been delighted to form a partnership with Bloomsbury Publishing to capture book photography for the ground breaking book Want by Gillian Anderson.

An instant New York Times bestseller, Want is a collection of confessions from women around the world. This revelatory, sensational and game-changing exploration of women’s sexuality asks, and answers: How do women feel about sex when they have the freedom to be totally anonymous?

The campaign for the Want won the Publicity Campaign of the Year award at the British Book Awards 2025. We at Lane + Co are delighted to have played a part in such a successful and era defining book.

Penguin Clothbound Classics

Penguin Clothbound Classics are known for their tactile, rich quality. Using evening lighting and luxurious textures, we captured a 'Christmas evening' mood with these photograohs.

A Court of Thorns and Roses: Summer

When we conceptualised the Summer shoot for A Court of Thorns and Roses, our minds immediately gravitated toward the ethereal beauty of the Spring Court. As fans of the series know, the Spring Court is a realm alive with natural wonder—flowers blooming in every color, lush greenery, and sunlight that dances across the land. To do justice to this vivid imagery, we embraced the spirit of Spring Court, transforming our set into a floral wonderland.

The Summer shoot produced five distinct images, each bursting with life and detail. Whether it was a close-up of the book surrounded by a halo of petals or a wide shot showcasing the interplay of props, every image radiated the magic of Spring Court. This project not only exemplified our expertise in creative book photography but also pushed the boundaries of what we could achieve with art direction and set design.

Penguin's Instagram Re-launch

For Penguin, we created a unique house style of photographing books, shot in a consistent way, on grey and on one Penguin colour.

This fresh approach resonated with Penguin's social audience, particularly on Instagram. The number of image likes post launch were higher than ever, and the follower growth exponential too: growing from 300K to 500K in the space of a year.

Long Island by Colm Tóibín

Colm Tóibín's book Long Island is the much anticipated sequel the prize-winning, bestselling novel Brooklyn. We were thrilled to be asked by Pan Macmillan to manage the campaign creative for the initial launch, which included portrait photography of Colm, as well as still-life photography of the book.

We also worked on the paperback launch, creating photography for the best selling book.

Crescent City by Sarah J. Mass

The Crescent City series from Sarah J. Mass has three instalments: House of Flame and Shadow, House of Sky and Breath and House of Earth and Blood. We thought it would be instersting to photograpjy each book in the core elements: earth, wind and fire.

A Court of Thorns and Roses: Night Court Edition

Using the Night Court imagery as inspiration, we used smoke to capture the idea of magic and mystery. We also used a night sky as our backdrop. With a limited colour palette of black and white/silver, we wanted the photography to look very different to the Summer series we photographed, while still maintaining the sharp quality.

↑ We used a hand-held smoke machine to create this effect
